Located on the historic grounds of McWilliam’s Winery in Hanwood, New South Wales, The Barrel stands as a bold example of architectural innovation and refined craftsmanship. Completed in 2023, this newly reimagined structure draws direct inspiration from the shape of a traditional wine barrel. Its design now honours McWilliam’s winemaking legacy while embracing contemporary luxury.
Originally a simple, curved building tucked between vineyards, The Barrel has undergone a 12-month transformation. Every detail reflects a seamless union of heritage and modernity. From its curved exterior shell to the high-end interior finishes, the space now feels striking and intentional. Though its design is contemporary, it carries the soul of the estate’s past.
At the heart of the main gathering area sits the Seguin Multivision 8000 4 Sided Fireplace, supplied by Sculpt Fireplace Collection. This fireplace acts as the centrepiece. Its four-sided glass view invites warmth and visibility from every angle. It anchors the room, both functionally and visually, and complements the soft curves and textured materials used throughout the space.
Inside The Barrel, old meets new in clever ways. Vaulted timber ceilings frame natural light. Textured walls and tactile materials ground the space. Above all, the design remains welcoming—warm tones and open views help connect guests to the vineyard outside.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, The Barrel serves a clear purpose. It provides a unique setting for tastings, events, and intimate gatherings. Moreover, it celebrates the McWilliam’s legacy while signalling a strong step into the future of winery experience.
The Seguin Multivision 8000 4 Sided Fireplace completes the space. Its presence reinforces the project’s goal: to blend bold innovation with comfort and timeless charm.
