The Stone House is a small-scale triumph of design, craftsmanship, and vision. Built by RK Brine and designed by architect Suzanne Hunt, this compact home in the Perth Hills redefines what small living can be. With only two bedrooms and a modest footprint, it feels far larger thanks to smart design, thoughtful material use, and clever spatial planning.
At its heart is the JC Bordelet Tatiana suspended wood fireplace, supplied by Sculpt Fireplace Collection. This statement piece hangs in the centre of the open-plan living area, providing warmth, elegance, and a powerful visual focus. More than just functional, the fireplace defines the space—drawing the eye upward and encouraging moments of connection.
Outside, the home is built with stone sourced directly from the site. These walls not only ground the home physically, but also emotionally. They honour the memory of the client’s grandparents, whose original home once stood here. The connection to heritage runs deep, shaping both structure and spirit.
As the home climbs with the natural slope of the land, it opens to breathtaking views of bushland below. Large windows frame these vistas while flooding the interior with light. Despite its size, the home feels open, calm, and expansive.
The Stone House also responds to environmental challenges with intelligence. Limited access to water and power didn’t restrict the vision—instead, it inspired it. Hunt incorporated passive and active solar strategies, along with restored original water tanks, to create a fully off-grid home.
Ultimately, The Stone House is a masterclass in collaboration. It blends nature, heritage, and innovation into a unified whole. With the JC Bordelet Tatiana suspended wood fireplace as its centrepiece, the home radiates warmth, history, and design brilliance.
