Barron Cottage is a modern take on a classic 1960s family home, located in the leafy suburb of Mawson, ACT. The design brief was clear: update the interiors, retain the original footprint, improve storage, and create a home suited to modern family life.
Interior designer Kathryn Trentini of Trentini Designs reimagined the space with a focus on calm, comfort, and practicality. Living zones were reconfigured to improve flow and functionality. A new butler’s pantry, integrated laundry, and generous built-in storage brought convenience without compromising style.
At the centre of the home, the Axis EPI950 three-sided wood fireplace—supplied by Burning Log—anchors the living area. This sculptural fireplace from Sculpt Fireplace Collection offers multiple viewing angles, bringing both warmth and visual impact to the space. It enhances the sense of connection between rooms while creating a welcoming focal point.
Each design decision supports everyday living. The layout feels open and efficient. Materials and finishes offer a sense of calm while remaining durable and family-friendly.
Completed in 2016, the home went on to receive major recognition. In 2021, Barron Cottage won both the Professional Residential Award (ACT) and the People’s Choice Residential Award (ACT)—a testament to its timeless aesthetic and thoughtful design.
