Imara was born at The Big Cat Sanctuary on 15th April 2013 to mother Joy and was one of four cubs. Three females and one male. The name Imara means strong one! She was separated alongside her brother Ngozi at around a year old to live in the enclosure next door to the rest of the pride. She was chosen to stay with her brother as she appeared to be the most gentle natured of the three sisters. She has a loving and calm nature making her the perfect companion for Ngozi who sadly passed away in 2022 aged 10.
This left Imara alone, and rejoining the pride was not an option sadly as they would not welcome her back, it did not take long before a potentially suitable situation came about. Kasanga the African lion had spent many years waiting for a suitable companion. With such a loving way about her, Imara was the perfect match. They were in adjoining enclosures for a while, they fixated on one another and the mixing process was relatively seamless. She adores him, and he clearly is very happy to have her too.
